The Redding Rancheria is seeking a Youth Education Advocate. The preferred schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm.
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the youth educational Tribal Member programs and assisting with education programs and events. Provide General Membership with specialized guidance relative to youth educational, cultural, developmental, economical, and recreational needs and opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Counseling or Human Development Degree certificate (desired, not required)
- Must be fingerprinted, pass background check, drug test and DMV clearance, including valid CDL.
- CPR/First Aid Certified or ability to obtain.
- Accounting background classes or experience (desired, not required).
- Demonstrated experience on Native American education programs.
- Food Handlers Certificate.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
- Indian preference.
- Must be fingerprinted and pass background check
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Maintain and monitor the youth education programs. Including Private School and Special Needs Assistance, Educational School Trips, Monthly Youth Activities, Individual Youth Activity Accounts, 8th and 12th grade graduate incentives, College Preparatory Assistance, and College Motivation Trips.
2. Accept and distribute applications for tribal youth programs. Purchase and reimburse parents for eligible items (extracurricular, health, educational, sports, etc.)
3. Develop and maintain a database to track and report on Tribal youth program utilization and participation.
4. Ensure eligibility, track and maintain purchases, reimbursements, and balances for all individual youth activity funds, educational school trips and college preparatory for all tribal member school-aged children.
5. Responsible for keeping youth files up-to-date for the purposes of informing tribal member parents of child eligibility for youth programs.
6. Prepare and coordinate a 12-month calendar of events for family activities and ensure activities are within budget.
7. Assists with the planning of the annual 40% carnival, youth Christmas party, and Education Banquet.
8. Design and publish marketing materials for all tribal educational events.
9. Works alongside the Education Assistant I to determine themes and décor for all educational events.
10. Create a file for each Tribal Member student utilizing youth benefit programs for tracking purposes.
11. Collect and organize information about students in order to develop and implement future changes to tribal educational programs.
12. Identify and select at risk students (youth or adult) and work with them and/or their parents to create academic goals
13. Inform and encourage the Tribal youth and adults about career and educational opportunities within the Redding Rancheria and its entities
14. Research Tribal and community services for referral
15. Research training and conferences that motivate students to do better in school and help keep interests and attitudes high
16. Help youth or adult student’s complete educational applications (ex: School Registration, College applications, etc.)
17. Process check requests as needed for department and students
18. As mandated, identify and report suspected child abuse to proper authorities following established guidelines. Ensures safety of children at all times during department events/sessions.
19. Compose flyers for mail outs regarding trips, educational , career opportunities, etc.
20. Assist members with finding workshops pertaining to SAT, ACT, GED and state exit exams.
21. Keep a constant line of communication through close working relations with student’s educational institution, as well as communication with student and family
22. Assist with and attend youth leadership activities and attend the end of year trip.
23. Coordinate with youth students to develop a pre-scholarship plan-start with 8th grade students thru high school. (classes, test requirements needed to enter secondary education, etc.)
24. Coordinate and/or facilitate college campus tours or other tours related to student interests.
25. Research information for administrative reports and educational opportunities.
26. Crosstrain in all areas of the Education Department
27. Provide coverage to co-staff when necessary and serve the needs of adult scholarship students (tuition payments, ordering books and supplies, checking grades of students, processing monthly living allowance, etc.) as well as tribal youth utilizing tutoring.
