Tonya Geers-Balancing Life

“Having been awarded the Guiding Value Award, Balancing Life, has made me aware that the Redding Rancheria truly cares and values their employees. I am humbled and grateful to be given the opportunity to be a part of your team.”

Tonya was born in Mexico and moved to the United States when she was 5 years old. She started working in the legal field in 1986 and earned an Associate of Arts Degree as a Legal Assistant in 1991 from Shasta College. She has been a fitness instructor since 2002 and attended Pilates fitness training at A Body of Work in San Francisco.

Aside from spending time with her husband, Brian, she enjoys fitness activities, cooking, sewing and making beaded jewelry. She likes to make a difference in our community by spending time volunteering.

All-time favorite Disney character?

As I come from a family of 10, there was little time to watch television but I love cartoons and my favorite Disney character was Donald Duck until Simba, the Lion King arrived.

One musical instrument you would like to master?

I would love to master playing the piano.

What makes your day better?

What makes my day better is when I am able to give back to someone in need.

What gets you motivated?

Being able to get a good workout or run in for the day keeps me motivated.

Codey Ellenwood-Working Together

“Receiving the award really made me happy and to want to continue to grow with the Redding Rancheria family. I am so grateful for being honored with this award and will continue to do the best I can for the organization.”

Codey is from the Bay Area. He came to Redding when he was 10 years old and has loved every second of it. He attended Shasta College where he received Associates Degree and a baseball scholarship to go to school in Hawaii where he bagged a Bachelor’s Degree.

Codey enjoys all types of fishing especially when he gets to fish in different parts of the world with his wife.

What makes your day better?

Spending time with family and friends

What period would you travel to if you were given a time-machine?

I would like to travel to the 80’s.

What are you proud of?

I am proud of getting my education and graduating from college.

Dr. Chad Kingsley-Embracing Change

I am embarrassed by winning guiding value award. I strongly believe I work with many generous, quality individuals who deserve it.

Dr. Kingsley was born in metropolitan Bakersfield, California on the Earth Day. He grew up in Oregon but moved each year after 5th grade. He has lived in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, New Hampshire, and Texas. He has been to every state except Kentucky and Tennessee.

He moved to Redding in 2000 for residency at Mercy Medical Center. He met his wife Jolene the first week of Santa Rosa Junior College in 1988 and has followed her around since.

Favorite sport?

Mountain biking

All-time favorite Disney character?

It is a tie between Big Mama from the Fox and the Hound and Ray (Cajun firefly) from Princess and the Frog.

One character everyone should possess?

Humor

Best book you have ever read?

Ta -Nehishi Coates “Between the world and Me”

What makes your day better?

Diet Mt Dew and my wife!

What period would you travel to if you were given a time-machine?

I would travel back to when my children were born.

Nicole Wilkes-Doing What’s Right

“I feel so appreciative to have received a value award.”

Nicole was born and raised in Shasta County. At an early age she knew she wanted to work for her Tribe and she is grateful to now have the opportunity to serve as the Education Director at the Redding Rancheria. In her free time Nicole loves to spend time with her family.

Kara Russell-Respecting Others

“It feels good to be recognized for something that I believe is such an important value we should bring into our everyday life – Respecting Differences.”

Kara was born and raised in Redding. She attended school locally through her childhood and left the area for college graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from California State University, Chico in 1994 and with a Master’s degree in Social Worker from California State University, Sacramento in 1998. She then went on to further her education and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2009. She enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Favorite Sport?

I enjoy snow skiing and I love watching baseball.

All-time favorite Disney character?

Belle, she is a strong character and she fights for what she believes in and can be seen as a true role-model for women.

One ability that you think everyone should possess?

Grace

Best book you have ever read?

Multiple books through the years – I love books about the underdog who rises to the top.

What makes your day better?

Positive interactions with others.

What period would you travel to if you were given a time-machine?

70’s and to star in the movie Grease.

Guitar

Sahaile Kristoffersen-Serving Others

“I am so thankful to work for the Redding Rancheria and love how everyone works so well together as a team.”

Saheile grew up in Crescent City, a small town in Northern California. She attended college at the University of California, Davis and graduated in 1997 with a B.S. degree. She then went to medical school at Midwestern University – The Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.

She moved to Redding in 2003 to complete family practice residency at Mercy Medical Center. She enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, backpacking and travelling.

Volleyball

All-time favorite Disney character?

Moana

One ability that you think everyone should possess?

The ability to read.

What makes your day better?

Fresh air/being outside

One musical instrument you would like to master?

Piano

What gets you motivated?

Exercise, it gives me more energy.
