Dani Hayward-Balancing Life

“I feel very valued and appreciate the recognition.”

Dani Hayward is the Special Projects Manager at Redding Rancheria. She was born and raised in Redding. She graduated from UCLA in 2017 with a BA in Geography and Environmental Studies and a minor in American Indian Studies. After graduating, she moved back to Redding to be closer to family, and ended up starting a family of her own. She loves traveling, hiking, camping, and playing with her 18 month old, Willow.

Dallas Cowboys

What are you proud of?

I am proud of creating my little human and her amazing daily developments.

Best book you have ever read?

My favorite fiction that I have repeatedly read is “The Host” by Stephanie Meyer and my recent favorite is the memoir “Untamed” by Glennon Doyle.

Fun Fact about you…

I have traveled to 6 of the 7 continents. Antarctica is the only continent left to travel to, and I plan on going there in my lifetime.

What is your favorite TV show?

I have quite a few: GOT, The Boys, Grey’s Anatomy, and the OG is Vampire Diaries.

If you could be on a reality TV show, which one would you choose and why?

None, I am not a fan of reality TV.

Which historical figure would you most like to meet?

One of the AIM leaders, Russel Means.

Any advice for future award winners?

Work hard but don’t forget to breathe sometimes.

Laine Hayward-Working Together

“I am happy that I won the award because it shows that good work is acknowledged and apreciated.”

Laine is a maintainance worker in the Public Works Department at Redding Rancheria. He lived in Northern California all of his life and graduated from West Valley in 2017. His hobbies are playing video games, travelling, cruising and riding motorcycles. He enjoys being outdoors on his motorcycle.

I am proud of the work I have done to improve my life and the Tribes.

John Tau-Embracing Change

I was shocked, very happy and thankful for being selected for this award.

John Tau is a Custodian in the Public Works Department at the Redding Rancheria. He has lived in Shasta County his whole life and his friends call him JT. He enjoys spending time with his daughter, friends and in cultural activities.

What are you proud of ?

I am proud of my daughter, son, myself. I am also proud to be Native!

Which sports team(s) do you root for?

I love Denver Broncos, Motocross (watching our own chance Hayward) and Golden State Warriors.

Do you play any musical instruments?

No and be thankful I don’t sing either! LOL

Any advice for future award winners?

Be yourself have fun and be kind to others and pick up that trash you see or that cigarette but. Hold open a door for an elder, just be yourself!!!!!

Alice Mabry-Doing What’s Right

“I feel appreciated and very grateful!”

Alice Mabry is the RN Case Manager at Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Center. She moved to Redding 12 years ago after graduating with BSN from Humboldt State University. She enjoys hiking, reading and watching documentaries.

What are you proud of?

I finished Nursing school with 3 children and a daily 90 minute commute each way for 4 years.

Best book you have ever read?

I don’t have a favorite but I have read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn several times. Oh, I also really enjoyed The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho! For me books are like people, no matter how much I may disagree with the story there’s always something to learn.

Fun Fact about you?

I think snails are terrifying, I have an adorable lion’s mane rabbit and I’m painfully shy.

What is your favorite movie?

What Dreams May Come starring Robin Williams or Prometheus. I don’t read fantasy or Sci-Fi, but they are my favorite types of movies.

What song or album could you listen to on repeat?

My attention span would never allow me to listen to anything on repeat but if I had to, maybe the Bad Company album by Bad Company or Pink Floyd’s The Wall.

Which historical figure would you most like to meet?

If I could go back in time and meet anyone, it would be my own Ancestors. I would learn the origin stories of my (Hupa) people and ask what their dreams were for their future generations.

Any advice for future award winners?

Treat co-workers and patients as you would want your loved ones treated.

Hollie Malloy-Respecting Others

Hollie Malloy is the Medical Office Supervisor at the Redding Rancheria Trinity Health Center. She was born and raised in Shasta County. She moved to Trinity County in 2007. Her interests include, hiking, gardening and traveling. She enjoys being outdoors and exploring different places with her dog Sultan. She loves to create new recipes and enjoys cooking.

I enjoy hosting wine and food pairings. Even during Covid I planned and prepared zoom wine tastings.
